The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) released its annual Electric Service Reliability Report, detailing the performance of the state’s electric distribution companies (EDCs) during 2016.

The PUC’s annual reliability report measures performance based on various benchmarks and standards for the state’s 11 EDCs, including Citizens’ Electric, Duquesne Light, Metropolitan Edison, PECO, Pennsylvania Electric, Pennsylvania Power, Pike County Light & Power, PPL Electric Utilities, UGI Utilities, Wellsboro Electric and West Penn Power.

Performance measurements documented in the report include the frequency and duration of outages; the frequency of momentary and sustained outages; and utility-specific information and analysis of outages causes; and major events that impacted power customers during 2016.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
